I am the Assistant Musical Director, Creative Director & founding member of the Citizens Of The World Choir.
Our story includes;
In 2017, after the closure of the Calais Jungle, Lord Roger Roberts of Llandudno dreamt of a project that would open its arms to the refugee community in the UK. As a proud Welshman, his idea was a choir: to promote integration and healing through the power of music.
By Easter that year, Citizens of the World Choir was established. And we haven’t looked back. Over the years, we have sought always to centre the diverse voices, cultures & experiences that find sanctuary in our choir, and are proud that today our community of refugees and friends supports each other, sings together and performs all over the UK.
We make a loud and beautiful noise, we create a space to congregate that is safe and joyous, and we stand by the journeys that have brought us together and in solidarity with displaced peoples everywhere.
At this time, togetherness has never been more important. Our choir rehearses online & in person to combat loneliness and isolation, and reaches out to provide virtual concerts to the wider community. Today COTW is a fully fledged CIC (Community Interest Company) and has 50 members, representing nearly 30 different nationalities, who come together to sing each week in London.
